Choosing a size online becomes much easier once you know whether a chart shows body measurements or finished garment measurements. They sound similar, but they answer different questions—and confusing the two can lead to a fit that feels too close or far too loose.
Body measurements describe you
Body measurements are taken around your body: typically bust, waist and hip. Keep the tape level and comfortably close without pulling it tight. Wear a light layer and stand naturally. These numbers help you identify the general size range designed for your proportions.
Garment measurements describe the clothing
Garment measurements are taken on the finished piece. They include room for movement, styling and the intended silhouette. A kurti designed to fall loosely will have a bust measurement larger than the body measurement it is meant to fit. That difference is called ease.
The most reliable comparison
Take a garment you already love and lay it flat. Measure it in the same places listed on the product page. For the chest, measure straight from underarm to underarm and double the number when the chart gives a full circumference. Compare length, shoulder and sleeve as well—not only the letter on the label.
Decide how you want it to feel
Fit is personal. Some people prefer a closer line; others want extra room through the bust, upper arm or hip. Think about how you will wear the piece. If you plan to layer it, sit for long periods or travel in it, a little more ease may feel better.
